The Marshall County Fair Association was successful in securing a Community Service Tax Credit Grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce to erect two new livestock barns for the county fair grounds. The Dairy/Sheep barn as well as the Swine barn will be replaced with approximately 90×100 ft. open sided buildings. The Swine barn will have a concrete floor much like before and the Dairy/Sheep barn will remain a dirt floor. New pens and tie stalls will be constructed to hold the livestock while participating at the fair. All pens and stalls will be removable to allow the use of the buildings for other venues during other times of the year.
The Tax Credit Grant awarded our project $140,000 in credits which would generate $200,000 in revenue to put towards the project. Originally the project requested $178,000 in credits that would have generated $254,000 in revenue for the complete project. Due to the lower amount of funding, the fair association is asking for donations to help cover the cost of purchasing the new pens and stalls to be used in the new buildings.
